VOTE (election) Poster

For this election poster, the design concept that I had was to keep it simple and effective. I kept it simple by not having that much pictures and using words. The only images I used were the Ontario flag and the province of Ontario. Then I put the province and the flag together to make the province look like the flag it self. I chose a blueish colour for the background to resemble water. I also used a check mark symbol to make it look like the words(Your Province, Your future,Your vote and Student Vote 2014) were being checked off. I got inspiration for designing my poster from the examples of the simple posters that were in the classroom wall. I liked the idea of of the simple poster because even though it was simple it still conveys the message of voting.

Macro Photography

Before
After

"The Mane"-Shape
I took a picture of a dandelion because the dandelion's pedals look like the mane of a male lion. I cropped the image so that the dandelion would not be in the middle. The design concept it illustrates is rule of thirds because the dandelion is on the left side of the picture. I also enhanced the colour and used auto smart fix. The focal point of this picture is the pure colour of the dandelion which is to he left. I chose shape for the Elements of design because it looks like a lions mane.

After

"Fluff Ball"-Texture
I took a picture of a dandelion that was at the stage of reseeding. I took a picture of this dandelion because the white fluffy stems of the seeds look like fur. I cropped the image so that the dandelion would be at the left of the picture. I also enhanced the colour and auto fixed it as well, I wanted the focal point to be the middle of the dandelion where all of the seeds are. I chose texture for the Elements of design because the dandelion had good texture with the seeds.

 "The Micro Flower"-Balance
I took a picture of a small flower because it was very interesting, also it was unique by being small. I cropped the picture so I could get an even closer image of it. I also enhanced the image with enhance colour, I used auto fix as well. I used the contrast and brightening tool to give some contrast to the flower. I also used the clone stamp tool to stamp out some holes in the flower. I wanted my focal point to be the in side of the flower. I chose balance for the Elements of design because the colours balance each other.

Photo Restoration

Before
After

For my photo restoration project, I used option three. When I first started restoring this picture, I converted this photo into black and white. Then I switched to the clone stamp tool and I used that tool for all of my restoration project. First, I started to clone stamp the big gash, from the left side of the photo and through the baby's face to the right. While I was doing that, I also started to clone stamp some little areas that needed to be restored like a bit of one of the eyes and some dark spots through out the photo, also some other little cracks. I also restored some if not all of the background (behind the baby and the blanket). I am fully satisfied with my photo restoration. I am fully satisfied with my my restoration because it looks nice, it's more of a clear image.

My Composite Painting

Title of painting: " The Flying Sharks"My concept for this composite image is a planet in really deep space inhabited by sharks. These sharks however, are not normal sharks. These sharks are flying sharks. On their home planet, these sharks can swim in the water like normal sharks, but they can also breach and then be air born if they want. For my techniques, I used two non copyrighted images: water over the horizon picture and a space picture. To make my setting I used those two pictures and I used the space painting and overlaid it on to the sky picture to make the sky in the water picture turn to space. Then, I got some non copyrighted shark images and I used the magic wand tool to take away their original background and just have the sharks. After that, I uses the free transform tool to size the sharks, and then I placed them. Then, I got a non copyrighted image of shark fins and put them in the water, to make it look like there are more sharks on this planet. I also used a cracked cement texture to make the image look like it was painted on cement.

Composite Photo Critique

This Painting was created by Jacek Yerka. Jacek Yerka was born in 1952, in Poland. His family had an artistic background, with both parent graduated at a fine arts academy. He began his career as a full time artist in the 1980's. I think that this work was done really well. It was done really well because of all the detail. You can see that the detail is done really well by how this cave looks like an alligator or a crocodile.
I think that this Painting is pleasing. I think that this painting is pleasing because of the detail and the neatness of it. Also it look cool how the train is coming out of the alligator or crocodile mouth.

Digital Paintings

My first digital painting site is called "Comets". I called this painting "Comets" because my concept was to create the feel of comets hitting the Earth. My design features for this pictures for this painting is that I smeared it all together(Sumo Paint) and that I used a grain filter, to make it look like stippling art(Photoshop).

My second digital painting is called " The Great Owl". I called this painting "The Great Owl" because my concept was to paint over a non copyrighted image of an owl . My design features for this picture that I used a feather paintbrush to create the grey feathers(Sumo Paint), and I used a water paper filter to sort of make it look like it was part of a piece of cloth or clothing(Photoshop).

My third digital painting is called "The Powerful Geinie Awakens". I called this painting "The Powerful Geinie Awakens" because my concept was just for fun and I wanted to see were this painting that I drew on Pencil Madness. While I was first starting to draw this painting, I started to think about the book "One Thousand And One Nights" book. Then I started painting a picture that depicts a story in the book, "Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves". My design features was using a drawing tool that look like smoke/hair for the outline of the smoke cloud and Ali Baba's hair.

OLOL Poetry Anthology Book Cover Design

For my Poetry Anthology book cover design I used a purple and grey gradient. I used a purple and grey gradient because the colour purple represents the colour emotion of creative, imaginative and wise. Grey, represents balance and calm. I chose these colours because they both represent how creative the people who are in this book through writings and art. I also used a non copyrighted image of someone thinking, and I made the picture into a silhouette. For my text, used the colour yellow because yellow is the complementary colour to purple. I believe that my book cover should represent Our Lady Of Lourdes poetry and anthology book because it is simple and effective. It is simple because there is not that many images and it's effective because the colours I chose were bright and catching to the eye.

Multicultural Festival Poster

For my Guelph Multicultural Festival poster, I used two non-copyright images off the internet. I used an image of the Earth for my background and I also used one of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel masterpiece's Adam and God. My message that I am trying to convey is that a high power being created all of the people in the world differently to make us accept one another's belief's, and to celebrate and recognize our differences in our culture as well. I believe that my poster conveys them  of: One World Living Together because Adam's hand on the left represents all humans, and the hand on the right represents a high power being who created all of us and made us,and made us all diverse. Earth, in the background represents our diversity in the world.

Flower CD Mobile (mobile project)

For the mobile project, we were all in groups. My group members were: Laszlo, Christian, Caz, Kristina and Cassandra. Our group chose to do a CD themed mobile. We decided to paint flowers on the CD's, we got the idea to paint flowers on the CD's from searching on the internet for ideas. We decided to do a warm and cool colour style for the printed side of the CD's. We wanted to leave the reflective side of the CD's to be unpainted because we wanted the relection of the CD's to show. For the balance of our mobile we used two bendable rods,we bent them in a coat hanger shape. Then we put two CD's on the two hooks that we made. Before we bent the rods , Laszlo drilled in two holes in each of our discs and then we tied knots on our discs to connect them with one another. Our focal point is in the middle of our mobile. Our focal point is about three lines of our connected CD's but were not separated by warm and cool colours, but all mixed together. Our overall theme of our project  was a floral warm and cool colour theme.

Digital Portrait

For my first digital portrait, I used a picture of Carissa who was smiling. I was trying to communicate the emotion of cheerfulness. I used the photocopy filter to make the image look like a photocopied image. To create the image I used auto colour fix and auto sharpen. Then I used the contrast tool to make the contrast be a bit more darker to make one part more visible when I used the filter. After I used the filter I cropped the picture to put her a bit more to the left side of the picture.

For my Second digital portrait, I used a picture of Jamie who was not smiling and looking serious. I was trying to communicate the emotion of serious. I used the graphing pen filter to make the image look like a drawing. To create the image I used auto colour fix and auto sharpen. Then I used the filter and I adjusted the filter to make it like more like a normal black and white picture then a sketch, but still have some of the look of a graphing pen. After I filtered the picture I cropped it to take away some of the space on the left of the picture.

For my third and final digital portrait, I used a picture of Cameron who was posing in a depressed manner. I was trying to communicate the emotion of sadness and despair, but overall depression. I used the pastel filter to make the image like a pastel drawing. To create the image I used auto colour fix and auto sharpen. Then I used the filter and played with it to get it to look like an actual pastel drawing then a normal photo. I had some difficulties to whether or not to leave it in colour or to change it to black and white. I chose to leave it in colour because if I didn't then the pastel filter wouldn't really show and it would looked like a normal black and white picture. After I used the filter I cropped it to make his face be more on the left side.

Overlay Technique project

To create the image on the right I used a picture that was taken in class and then I cropped it so I am to the left. Then I made my the yellow/gold part of my uniform navy blue with the clone stamp. After I did that I picked a stone texture to use for my face. I chose a stone texture because it was sort of easy to work with and also I liked the stone texture example that I saw in class. After I chose my image I turned the picture black and white because the stone texture was grey and the grey would blend nicely with back and white. Next, I used the lasso tool to copy my eyes and mouth then the clone stamp to cover my original eyes. Then I pasted them onto the stone texture. I erased the excess stone texture so it would be just my face with the texture. I thought about leaving the hair with the texture but I decided to erase it .I had some problems as well. One problem was that I didn't know weather or not to make my hair part of the stone texture or make it actual hair by erasing it on my hair part. I overcame this problem by, deciding to erase the parts that covered my hair to make it actual hair, and not the stone texture. My opinion on my overlay is that I did a good job, I like how my overlay creates a sort of dark aspect. I am happy with my final product.

Andy Warhol Silk Screen Technique

I used my knowledge of analogous colours for this project. I used blue, yellow and green pigments for my three pictures. I used these colours because their pigments/shades are easy to work with and by using the shades they make the pictures stand out.

Photojournalism Ethics

1. I think that Staging Scenes is not okay. Staging scenes is not okay because they are lying to the public by altering pictures to get a different mood when taking a pictures. Also, by staging scenes photo journalists are being unethical and it misleads the public's opinion about a certain topic or situation, like the imitations of the child's toy in front of a deserted city. There were a lot of copycats who tried to copy the image by bringing kid's toys with them, and placing them near deserted area, beaches and wastelands.

2.I think that Manipulation of Digital Photos is not okay. It is not okay because with digital manipulation you can place anything you could think of in the photo and make it look believable. The example of this technique is the Sharks in New Jersey photos. In New Jersey there was an actual flood that occurred, the sharks however were not part of the flood. People took pictures of the sharks at an aquarium or the beach and photoshoped them in and made them fit into the picture, as well as making the sharks blend into the water to make the sharks look like they belong in that picture.

3.I think that Intrusion into Privacy is wrong. It is wrong because the people who are taking the pictures of famous people are invading their private life and these famous people just want to be alone with there friends or family, and not having to deal with people who are in their faces all the time. An example of this is are celebrity parents. They are an example of this because the celebrity parents have to try to conceal their kids sometimes whenever they have a family outing because they want to shelter their kids from the cameras in their faces when they just want some alone time with their parent as well as parents wanting to spend time with their kids.

Marcello's New Kid

1. The faces that I chose were Laszlo's face for the base. I also used Pietro's face for the glasses and mouth. And, finally I used Daniel's face for the eyes. I picked these three faces for my my New Kid project because their skin tones are similar.

2. I did well on the eyes, the eyes are placed well and they look like they belong on the person. I also think I did well on the hair. I did well on the hair because I cut the hair nicely and made it believable and the hair colour is coloured nice and evenly. The areas that I should work on improving is the mouth. The mouth looks sort of wonky a bit and some of it is sort of cut off.
