Overlay Technique project

To create the image on the right I used a picture that was taken in class and then I cropped it so I am to the left. Then I made my the yellow/gold part of my uniform navy blue with the clone stamp. After I did that I picked a stone texture to use for my face. I chose a stone texture because it was sort of easy to work with and also I liked the stone texture example that I saw in class. After I chose my image I turned the picture black and white because the stone texture was grey and the grey would blend nicely with back and white. Next, I used the lasso tool to copy my eyes and mouth then the clone stamp to cover my original eyes. Then I pasted them onto the stone texture. I erased the excess stone texture so it would be just my face with the texture. I thought about leaving the hair with the texture but I decided to erase it .I had some problems as well. One problem was that I didn't know weather or not to make my hair part of the stone texture or make it actual hair by erasing it on my hair part. I overcame this problem by, deciding to erase the parts that covered my hair to make it actual hair, and not the stone texture. My opinion on my overlay is that I did a good job, I like how my overlay creates a sort of dark aspect. I am happy with my final product.

  1. Marcello, this is a fabulous reflection. You have explained both the technical aspects and your decision-making process. It is clear and the only grammar issue is that you said "weather" which is rain and snow, instead of "whether" as in to decide which option.
I think your image is very effective. I am surprised that you copied the eyes on to a new layer instead of just erasing the overlay that covered your eyes, but it certainly works well. I agree that black and white was the right decision and I think the cropping is good. Remember next time to put your background on a separate layer so it can be changed easily:)
